Dr. Tariful Islam is a public health professional and researcher, currently leading the Project and Concepts Sub-Committee of the Public Policy and Development Society (PPDS) and serving in the World Health Organization for more than two years. His previous role at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) – UN Migration involved critical work in the Rohingya Refugee Camp, a level three humanitarian crisis, alongside contributions to various international non-governmental organizations over three years. Dr. Islam’s academic journey is marked by his ongoing Executive Master in Health Economics (EMHE) at the University of Dhaka, after completing his Master of Public Health (MPH) from North South University in 2021 and earning his MBBS from Chittagong Medical College in 2017.
Dr. Islam’s research portfolio is marked with some impactful publications in esteemed journals such as PLOS ONE and BMC Health Services Research, addressing vital issues like oral health among Rohingya refugees and the psychological impacts on healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. His current research encompasses a broad spectrum of public health concerns, including vaccine uptake among COVID-19 patients, mental health among caregivers of drug abusers, and the effects of solid fuel use on hypertension. Furthermore, his studies on PTSD in healthcare workers and knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding Ebola and Nipah viral diseases cover versatile areas of the field of public health. Dr. Islam is exceptionally skilled in conceptualizing and developing research frameworks, academic writing, and analyzing quantitative and geospatial data, demonstrating his invaluable contributions to public health research and policy.
